Label KLEM releases first VA “Tales of the Silent Hyphae” : a sonic mycelium between the organic and the surreal

Founded in 2022 by Berlin-based producer and DJ Inverno, KLEM is a label that moves between ambient experimentation and more club-oriented explorations. With this new release—and first Various Artists—it delves into an organic universe inspired by hyphae – the filamentous structures essential to fungal growth – weaving an immersive and richly textured sonic experience.

Bringing together ten predominantly FLINTA artists from across Europe, Tales of the Silent Hyphae is a sonic odyssey where dark ambient, drone, IDM, and noise experimentation intertwine. Each track contributes to this living musical architecture, exploring the boundary between the organic and the surreal.

The compilation opens with Bells by Klem label head Inverno, immediately plunging us into a dark and intense drone, with an enveloping soundscape that sets the stage for immersion. Parallel Encounter by Sonic Concrete extends this atmosphere with a noise ambient approach—granular and chaotic. More ethereal, Aurora Borealis by Waterblip constructs a dreamy and hypnotic landscape of repetitive melodic loops. In a more melancholic register, Ourselves by Sarkha unfolds a long melodic drone, punctuated by an airy, suspended piano.

This compilation is an exploration of the eerie liminal, a journey through ambient darkness and rich, melancholic textured atmospheres.
Inspired by the Hyphae theme, it weaves a sonic tapestry that connects the organic and the surreal, the unseen and the deeply felt.

With Endure Reality, FLAX crafts an experimental piece flirting with glitch, where textures collide and diffuse like sonic reminiscences—perhaps samples from old films. Feeling Off by Ambu Bambu explores experimental IDM and breakbeat deconstruction, continuously ascending like a layering of evolving soundscapes. Meanwhile, It Was Just A Thought by Joa Luna anchors itself in electronica with frayed broken beats, overlaid with a stuttering, spectral voice.

More lo-fi and introspective, Rejection by Ionzi merges spoken word and shoegaze, creating a hazy, fragmented sonic space. No Fear Ahead by Guenter Råler infuses plucked strings with a lo-fi hyperpop resonance tinged with a shoegaze sensibility. Finally, Shame 04:33 by Elisanyhm closes the compilation on a vaporous note, where voices dissolve into cloud-like horizons, like a final, suspended breath.

The visual universe of Tales of the Silent Hyphae is entrusted to Berlin-based artist and photographer Maria Louceiro, who, in chromatic continuity with the blue of the KLEM logo, offers an ethereal and almost dreamlike illustration that extends the sonic atmosphere of the project into visual form.
