Prophän is the musical project of Othman Cherradi, a Casablanca-born artist living in Paris. He runs the experimental techno label Rhadâb and is co-founder of Mindless, a series of events, podcasts and radio shows.
Prophän’s music is certainly defined by a rich and varied sonic palette, from its beginnings tinged with mental and hypnotic techno, as a vehicle for his sudden electronic experimentation, to the culmination of pieces infused with baroque post-punk blooming with shaking emotion, he attaches himself to the various – sometimes painful – elements that surround him to add them to his compositions afterwards.
Filmed in his Paris studio, the artist reveals himself through a portrait that explores his musical composition process, his rituals and inspirations borrowed from North African culture, and the key stages in the evolution of his music.
The sometimes eerily melancholy sounds of Prophän’s music and their associated track title emanate from a certain desire to put his audience into a trance, in order to exorcise a form of “abstract pain”, which he invites us to experience like a shamanic ritual during his live performances.
